Treasures of the Heart

I graduated from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana with a BFA degree. I majored in painting and minored in art history. After my first year in school, I converted to the Orthodox Christian faith, which impacted my entire life, including the direction of my artwork.

During my third year, my painting class worked in collaboration with the local hospital, Clarian Health System. In the interest of spreading awareness about women’s heart disease, they asked us to paint about a woman’s heart. After searching my own heart, I turned to the bible where we are told to “store your treasures in heaven… for where your treasures are, there will your heart be also.” After much contemplation, I was led to uplift and encourage these women struggling with heart disease by pointing to that passage, rather than focusing on the destructive nature of the disease. Pictured at left, I manifested an abstraction of Love within the human heart.

"...where your treasures are, there will your heart be also.”

AfteAfter completing college, marrying my beloved husband Joshua, and moving to Ohio, I have continued to create works of art at home, while keeping a part-time framing job. In the spring of 2007 I attended an iconography workshop for the first time, where I wrote (painted according to the ancient tradition of the church) my very own icon of Christ. Writing an icon was a joy and a privilege for me and has encouraged me to continue along this path. I am equally interested in and excited about furthering my oil painting abilities and looking for more ways to portray the early Christian Church’s beauty and life using my western style of painting.

We are expecting our first child in July and are very excited! Therefore, I'm focusing more on selling prints than creating new originals, especially while I'm pregnant and unable to work with oils.
